"DEEP JANSEVA SAMITI" - the name itself is indicative of the duties of Deep Janseva Samiti. The "Deep", which lights up the houses of millions in our country, is our symbol. The Samiti, with the help of its symbol, is engaged in trying to create social awareness among the poor in India.
The very idea of forming this Samiti was born in the minds of our founders in August 1989, when communal forces were at their peak in creating chaos in the whole of the motherland. At that time, these forces were exploiting the religious sentiments of our people and creating an atmosphere of disharmony in various parts of India like Bhagalpur, Ayodhya, Assam, and so on.
During this critical period, the Samiti started enrolling members and immediately took up programmes for spreading social awareness and fighting the growing tentacles of communalism. These programmes were undertaken in various slums and societies.
The formal inception of DEEP JANSEVA SAMITI was done on the 14th of November, 1989. This coincided with the birth centenary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. On this day, various programmes for children were held. The President of the Samiti also presented gifts to deserving students of two schools on behalf of the Samiti. This was followed by a programme to aid students of the Deaf and Dumb school in Mulund.
The Samiti has also participated in giving aid to needy students in the form of scholarships irrespective of their castes. The Samiti also arranged financial assistance for the marriage of poor girls from economically backward families.
